Rebecca Spence:

For the best shopping and coolest places to eat try the following areas.
Subiaco
– 10mins by train to subiaco train station or take a short taxi ride.

Buddha Bar: Telephone: 9382-2941.

The Buddha Bar is hidden down a small alley on Rokeby Road in the heart of Subiaco. It is a little slice of contemporary Indian where you can enjoy an intimate dinner, drinks and lots more. Inside you will find a cosy relaxed atmosphere where you can get a great Northern & Southern Indian meal with Asian fusion influences. http://www.buddhabar.theguide.com.au/

“Try the peppered kangaroo”.

The Subiaco Hotel is positioned smack in the middle of the city's most interesting restaurant, bar and shopping precinct. It is on the periphery of Perth and can be accessed either by train (Subiaco Station) or by a 5-minute cab ride from the CBD.

Go and see live football (AFL) game during the season. Also cool weekend markets.

Northbridge is Perth’s cultural and entertainment area, just a few minutes walk north of Perth City the other side of the train station. Northbridge is home to a number of pubs, nightclubs, bars, cafes, shops, galleries and one of the biggest concentrations of restaurants in Australia.

For those on a budget, the noisy fun of a dim sum lunch at one of Perth's many traditional Asian teahouses (especially in Northbridge) is cheap and delicious. Along with a refreshing cup of green tea, you can enjoy steamed pork buns, fried chicken feet, and egg tarts served at your table from the trolley.

Fremantle – About 20mins by train from hotel

Heaps of restaurants, bars, clubs and of course shops. (Great weekend market), heaps of cultural stuff. If you want to experience Fremantle then you must go down to Little Creatures. Great for lunch or dinner and a few drinks, also great pizzas and mussels.

Leederville

Lots of funky cafes, restaurants and a few bars and clubs. A couple of train stops from the city.

Beaches - Cottesloe

Not far from the hotel about one or two stops or take a short taxi ride. Very popular beach with good bars on the beach (excellent for Sunday sundowner). Indianna Teahouse is a beautiful café, restaurants right on the beach (bit pricy) but has amazing view.

Blue Duck is another café right on the beach with great view and is a bit more affordable. http://www.blueduck.com.au/

Scarborough http://www.scarboro.info/

Popular surf beach a bit further from hotel, catch a train to shirling or glendalaigh station then outside bus will take you straight there.

There’s also a couple of bars and cafes. Villa Bianchi is a nice little café opposite the clock tower.

Scarborough is much more happening at weekends, also there is a surf school if you want to learn to surf.
