Victoria Riddick (Dubai Based):

For shopping in the city, head to Northumberland street. The metro system is efficient and the Haymarket stop is at the top of the main shopping area. There's indoor and outdoor shops and plenty of variety. At the bottom of Nothumberland street cross the road to the monument and head left to the Theatre Royal, will take you up to St. James Park football ground and straight will take you towards the Quayside. The Quayside has been improved over the years and has some trendy eating/drinking venues, such as Marthas wine bar. Check out the blinking eye millenium bridge, so called for it's shape. There used to be a ship called the Tuxedo Royal which was infamous for its revolving dance floor, worth a visit for a giggle if its still there. Just make sure you don't drink too many 'Newcie Brown Ale's!'

For the serious shoppers, a 20/25 minute drive South of Newcastle takes you to the Metrocentre in Gateshead, a massive indoor shopping complex.

If you get time and have a car, head to the North East coast where the rugged landscape surrounding Bamborough Castle or the Farne Islands will be welcome relief from all that shopping!

P.S. The Geordie people are seriously 'the friendliest people in the World."
