Baalbeck, Lebanon's greatest Roman treasure, can be counted among the wonders of the ancient world. The largest and most noble Roman temples ever built, they are also among the best preserved.
Towering high above the Beqaa plain, their monumental proportions proclaimed the power and wealth of Imperial Rome.
The gods worshipped here, the Triad of Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, were grafted onto the indigenous deities of Hadad, Atargatis and a young male god of fertility. Local influences are also seen in the planning and layout of the temples, which vary from the classic Roman design.
Baalbeck is located on two main historic trade routes, one between the Mediterranean coast and the Syrian interior and the other between northern Syria and northern Palestine. 85 kilometers from Beirut.
17 kilometers beyond Beirut, just a few kilometers after the town of Damour. From there it climbs quickly along the beautiful Damour river valley for 26 kilometers to an elevation of 850 meters at Beiteddine.
The Beiteddine palace complex, Lebanon's best example of early 19th century Lebanese architecture, was built over a thirty year period by Emir Bechir El Chehab II, who ruled Mount-Lebanon for more than half a century.
Situated in the heart of Lebanon, in the Bekaa valley, you will find vineyards of Chateau Kefraya. They produce some of the most special and authentic wine in all Lebanon. Chateau Kefraya are not yet fifty years old ; and its winery is barely twenty years old! The quality of its products has been recognized and certified by the number and the prestige of the awards they received in international blind-tasting competitions. Gold, silver and bronze medals, without mentioning the trophies.
Mzaar Ski Resort is the prefect destination for skiing holiday with it's excellent 42 slopes and 80 kilometers of ski tracks. The skiing season in Lebanon is similar in length to that of the Alps stretching over a period of 4 months. Skiers, snowboarders, snowmobile addicts, cross-country lovers and paragliders come to the resort from all parts of the country. You will find plenty of hotels and drinking dens to relax around a open fire.

Beirut Party Center of the Middle East?
During your trip to Beirut be ready for some serious partying. However it wont get going till midnight, but dont worry as most clubs are open until 4am at weekends. It's hard to keep up with what's in as new places open, old ones close, others change name at the drop of a hat and hip venues can suddenly become unfashionable. Beirutis have a "party hard" attitude and hit the clubs even during the July 2006 bombings.
Some of the best clubs are BO18: Beiruti Hedonism. Beirutis will brag to you about how BO18 is the equivalent of any club in New York, London, or Berlin. Tip: "Doors open at 9pm, but no one in the know will arrive before 2am so start somewhere else before".
The Loft is a great place to check out a crowd of 18-23 year olds looking their best. Tip: "The way most of the clubs in Lebanon work is that you have to know someone who has made a reservation, say his/her name at the door, then you get in. Otherwise, you will be turned away". (Unless you happen to be escorting a crowd of attractive girls).
I was visiting friends back in the late 90's for a week long stay. The city was rebuilding after it's long war, it seemed that on every corner there was a shelled-out apartments, chunks of brickwork missing as if it has been consumed by leprosy. During a drive through downtown, I noticed a new building standing out. I asked my close friend who lives there? He laughed and said "almost everyone during the weekend. It's (cant remember the name) a new Nightclub, forget the rebuilding of the houses lets party first and worry later if at all"
Beirut is the party centre of the Middle East. And I agree the place truly rocks.
